Background

Mtandao wa Vikundi vya Wakulima Mkoa wa Arusha, abbreviated as MVIWAARUSHA, is a newly established regional network organization in Arusha region, catering for five districts of Arumeru East, Arumeru West, Karatu, Longido and Monduli. The regional network was born out of a middle network MVIWAMO, which in spite of focusing on the districts of Monduli and Longido has been instrumental in mobilizing the formation of MVIWAARUSHA networks in Karatu, Arumeru East and West. So in 2012, MVIWAMO managed to form MVIWAARUSHA – an umbrella network in Arusha region.

The main purpose of the network is to improve communication amongest farmers ‘groups in order to enhance the participation of small-scale farmers in planning, implementation/supervision of social, economic and understanding of political processes. The objectives of MVIWAARUSHA include:

  • Strengthening farmers’ groups.
  • Mobilization of farmers’ groups to form and/or join farmers’ networks.
  • Facilitation of communication between MVIWAARUSHA, district networks, local networks, farmers’ groups various institutions and other relevant organizations.
  • Bringing about changes of ideas and knowledge, skills and experience on farming and livestock keeping activities.
